Japan’s costs for this year’s Olympic Games and Paralympics in Tokyo were lower than expected, the Japanese news agency Kyodo reported on Friday, citing informed sources. At least 150 billion yen (1.4 billion dollars) less in costs were incurred than expected in view of the coronavirus-related exclusion of spectators. The cuts in employee costs, among other things, made possible by the widespread absence of spectators “more than compensated” for ticket losses, it said.
