Berlin (dpa) — Lamine Diack, the disgraced former president of world athletics has died aged 88, his family told various media on Friday. Diack led the IAAF, later rebranded World Athletics, from 1999 to 2015 but was convicted in 2020 of taking Russian bribes to cover up possible doping. He was sentenced to four years in jail in France but was able to spend some of it under house arrest. He returned to his native Senegal this year. His conviction was a major scandal for the sport.
