OverActive Media Esports Venue

Announced earlier this year, designs and plans are officially revealed for the venue. Hosting the future of Toronto’s esports competitions and concerts, the new location looks to become a new center for Canada. Located in Exhibition Place, the entertainment venue and hotel complex are already approved by the city officials.

“Over the past eight months, we have worked hand in hand with all of our city partners to bring our collective vision for the venue to the next level, and we could not be more excited to finally be able to share our latest plans with our fans in Toronto and the world,” Chris Overholt, President and CEO of OverActive Media said. “Toronto is one of the best entertainment markets in the world. We have worked closely with our partners to begin to realize the immense potential of this region of the city while furthering Toronto’s position as a global esports hub. Our vision is to create an unparalleled experience for fans and entertainment artists alike.”

Exhibition Place Design

Global design firm Populous will develop the esports venue for OverActive Media and estimates completion in 2025. In fact, the facility expects to hold over 200 events per year, including conventions, awards shows, esports tournaments, and more. This also includes a home for the organization’s various esports teams. Currently, OverActive Media owns the Toronto Ultra in the Call of Duty League and the Toronto Defiant in the Overwatch League.

“Today, we are embracing an exciting vision of the future by approving OverActive Media’s plan and secured lease terms,” Exhibition Place Board Chair and Councillor Mark Grimes said. “On behalf of Exhibition Place’s Board of Governors, we will continue to build on our rich history and showcase innovative spaces in our ongoing evolution. I proudly welcome OverActive Media to create an engaging space to meet the needs of our diverse and dynamic community.”

The esports scene continues to grow in Canada and around the world thanks to pushes from Enthusiast Gaming and Ubisoft. Adding a brand new venue for esports events in Toronto, Canada is just what’s needed from OverActive Media. Now that lease terms are secured, all that’s left is a final review and approval in 2021 from Toronto City Council.
