Following the ease of travel restrictions in Sweden, PGL is finally in the clear to organize the next CS:GO esports Major in Stockholm.

Swedish Health Minister Lena Hallengren broke the news by announcing the removal of all restrictions regarding social meetings. PGL had been wondering whether or not to chose Stockholm at the base for its Major. The organizer was even in discussions with two other countries. Even though it is not certain, Sweden has gained a clear advantage in the race.

Swedish Travel Restrictions

At first, some of the 24 teams were afraid to not get authorizations for their full rosters. Fortunately, three weeks ago, Swedish officials announced that a simple negative test would be enough for players to enter the country. There is now just a single remaining problem to deal with.

The Avicii Arena has a capacity of over 14 thousand people and is thus subject to a high health risk. But the Swedish government has made great efforts in dealing with the pandemic, mainly by vaccinating its population. So, all restrictions regarding public and private gatherings are no longer in effect on September 29. This new rule would allow the CS:GO esports PGL Major to set up camp in Stockholm.

CS:GO PGL Major Stockholm

The PGL Major Stockholm boasts an overall prize pool of $2 million alongside many Tournament Circuit Points. This S-tier CS:GO esports tournament is one of the most anticipated events of 2021 since its announcement in January. The fact that Sweden has been very influential to the game is another reason to believe this country could be chosen. After all, some of the most amazing CS:GO players, like Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer Gustafsson and Robin “flusha” Rönnquist come from there.

Depending on how they qualified, teams will go through three different stages in PGL Major Stockholm. The New Challengers Stage and New Legends Stage will eliminate eight teams each, bringing the remaining number of teams to eight. The New Champions Stage is a single-elimination bracket, with the quarterfinals and the semifinals boasting best-of-three matches.

Between October 27 and November 7, CS:GO esports fans could possibly enjoy the PGL Major 2021 in Stockholm, Sweden.
