Streaming platform Twitch revealed yesterday that a security breach took place in the form of a hack and data leak, publicly sharing the incomes and salaries of the top Twitch streamers.

Streamer Salaries

Although the community already knew that the top 1% of streamers self very high salaries, seeing the reality of it brought discontent. According to the data, Luminosity and Enthusiast Gaming streamer Félix “xQc” Lengyel earned $752,467 just in September 2021. Although he performed as the highest-paid streamer for that month, other numbers were just as impressive. Envy signed BotezLive for example saw a September payout of $17,981.

It should be noted that these earnings are only subscriptions and revenue from Twitch. The actual income is much higher. These salaries from the Twitch data leak and hack don’t include other forms of streamer income. Whether it’s merchandise sales, donations, or YouTube monetization, these massive figures are only a portion of the total income. Various streamers also confirmed the accuracy of these numbers as well.

Twitch Data Leak

Thankfully, Twitch is actively looking into the breach and taking measures to protect users. A blog post was published that shows updates and measures Twitch will take and show the actions being taken. The latest protective measures saw the brand reset all streaming keys for streamers just to stay on the safe side.

The alleged hacker, who initially shared the data on 4chan, stated that this breach was only part one too. It’s always been a mystery exactly what the salaries of the top Twitch streamers are and although this data leak and hack finally shares that information, it also highlights the company’s security weaknesses. It’s unknown where, how, or if more leaks will take place but the community is on the lookout for more info.
