German alpine skier Stefan Luitz will miss out on the Winter Olympic Games in February after surgery on a herniated disc. The German Ski Association (DSV) said on Thursday that the giant slalom specialist will only be able to return to training in six to eight weeks if he heals well. The 29-year-old, who has eight World Cup podiums, has been struggling with back problems since early October. Luitz was 17th at the World Cup opening giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, and was only 31st in a subsequent parallel race.
