In a move that shocked Call of Duty League esports, OpTic Gaming and Envy Gaming announced their merger, combining their talents under a new branding in OpTic Texas.

This potential merger had made waves in the community, especially as rumors started circulating way before the official announcement. Now that both teams have confirmed it, the Call of Duty League will never be the same again. A new COD powerhouse has risen, from the ashes of two teams that struggled during the 2021 season.

OpTic Texas

Both OpTic Chicago and Dallas Empire are no more. In its stead stands OpTic Texas, with a roster including the best of both worlds. It now features one of the best lineups in Seth “Scump” Abner, Brandon “Dashy” Otell, Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro, and Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal.

“This is the best thing for OpTic. Period.” said OpTic Gaming leader Hector “HECZ” Rodriguez

Although teams like Toronto Ultras and Atlanta Faze are clearly as threatening, this new squad is already a serious challenger to the title. However, it is also the end of a competitive rivalry that meant something to Call of Duty fans. Showdowns between Envy and OpTic were events to look out for, especially with something on the line.

Call of Duty League

While OpTic Texas will keep on using the former Dallas Empire CDL team slot, the team is now looking at opportunities to sell its other slot, based in Chicago for now. If an agreement has to be found, it needs to be before the beginning of the 2022 Call of Duty League around early February.

From a business perspective, Envy Gaming will keep on running its teams in other games like Overwatch or VALORANT. Even though they now operate under the same entity, both Envy and OpTic will still manage their own different ventures. Fans should be looking forward to these two entities working together, especially around activities like content creation.
