A total of 24 esports teams will be heading to China for the 2021 League of Legends World Championship, commonly known as Worlds. As the top LoL teams across the globe compete in playoffs to earn themselves a slot in the tournament, some teams, such as Team Liquid, 100 Thieves, Rogue, MAD Lions, and DWG KIA, have already qualified.

Worlds 2021 Teams

The best teams from North America, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania will converge in China to compete for the 2021 League of Legends Summoner’s Cup. China is hosting the Worlds 2021 back-to-back for the first time with this year’s event taking place in different cities.

The event will kick off in Shanghai before moving to other cities including Chengdu, Qingdao, and Wuhan where fans expect to see thrilling action right from day one. The LoL tournament will end on November 6, 2021, in the city of Shenzhen where the finals will take place.

LCK (South Korea)

DWG KIA qualified as one of the Worlds 2021 teams by winning the LCK in spring and by getting the minimum circuit points (50) in the summer regular season. DWG KIA, the 2020 champs, will try to win the Summoner’s Cup back-to-back to defend their title. Three LCK teams are yet to qualify for the tournament.

LCS (North America)

Among the 24 teams, three will come from North America. Already, Team Liquid and 100 Thieves have qualified for the championship. With convincing wins in qualification rounds, Team Liquid stomped on TSM to secure their place in the LCS Finals this past weekend. Meanwhile, 100 Thieves were unforgiving in their first series match against Evil Geniuses, making them the first North American team to qualify for the tournament.

Team Liquid, who’ve qualified for the championship for the fourth year in a row, will look to bring the crown to North America for the first time. Although 100 Thieves haven’t been in the tournament since 2018, they’ll look to make a name for themselves in this year’s competition. The third slot reserved for LCS will be filled by either TSM, Evil Geniuses, Cloud9, or Immortals.

LEC (Europe)

In Europe, the team that wins the summer playoffs auto-qualifies while the team with the most championship points between spring and summer becomes LEC’s second seed. Rogue, who had a dismal performance at the 2020 championship, became the first team to qualify by crushing Misfits 3-2 in Round 1 of the LEC 2021 Summer Playoffs. MAD Lions then took down G2 Esports 3-1 in Round 1 to become the second team to qualify in Europe.

LPL (China)

The winner of the LPL Summer Playoffs will become China’s first seed to the championship. Second place is given to the team that has the most LPL championship points. The top four teams in the championship that do not qualify automatically will settle scores at Regional Finals. The winner and the runner-up at the gauntlet will become China’s third and fourth seeds to represent Worlds 2021.

)

Other regions where teams are yet to qualify for the championship include Brazil, Turkey, Vietnam, Japan, Oceania, Russia, Latin America, and PCS (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia). Vietnam has two slots in Worlds 2021, but it’s not yet clear if they’ll send teams since they canceled their summer season.
