Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt started his alpine skiing World Cup title bid in strong fashion on Sunday with victory in the season-opening race in Austria, a giant slalom. Odermatt, 24, won under sunny skies on the glacier course in Soelden in a combined total 2 minutes 5.94 seconds, rising from third after the first run. Austrian Roland Leitinger led the way after the first run but missed a first career victory by seven-hundredths in second place.
