Organisers of the Afrochella music and culture festival, Culture Management Group have opened an ultra modern music Museum in Accra.

The establishment of the music museum which is located on the premises of events of promotions company BBnZ forms part of activities to celebrate this year’s (2021) Afrochella.

Speaking with journalists at the launch, Poject Manager of Afrochella, Khadijat El-Alawa said t he 2021 Afrochella focuses on the promotion and marketing aspects of the rich Ghanaian and African music, hence a need to set up a music Museum.

That, she said is to tell a vivid story of the emergence and true origination of Ghanaian music and it musicians.

By setting up this music museum, she believes there will be a broader conversation about Ghanaian music and the way forward as a nation.

The ultra modern music Museum captures past and current Ghanaian musicians,representing different genres of music of Ghanaian decent.

Khadijat mentioned Joe Oti Agyeman, who is the main writer and Prof. John Collins, also as the contributing writer.

“We were able to bring all this to life and we hope that people will come through, we learn, we will appreciate it and moving forward we want to have a more permanent space that people can come in to share the experience,” she said.

Furthermore, the Project Manager said “this a pop up for this year so we are hoping that from next year we will have a permanent space.”

“We will have a music museum; we will update it as our journey and to tell our story and continue as it evolves as the music industry that we know, and we are also hoping to have a Hall of Fame so that we can remember the backbone that we had and the people that had built the industry.”

Afrochella is a project that started in 2017 that focuses on propagating and projecting Ghanaian culture, and the other African culture as a whole through music concerts among others.

It is an annual Ghanaian music and experiential festival that showcases the vibrant work of African creatives & entrepreneurs. With representation from diverse cultures across the continent, Afrochella is designed to elevate and highlight thriving millennial talent in Africa.

The festival aims to teach, explain and explore cultures through a pioneering approach; combining art, creative activations, premium continental cuisine, and African music.
